DGIST takes top honors at University Rowing Competition for three consecutive years
- DGIST has earned medals at the 13th University Rowing Tournament on July 27 and 28 -
The 13th University Rowing Competition held this year was participated by 240 males and female students in 24 teams from 8 universities nationwide including DGIST as well as Korea University, Seoul National University, Yonsei University, POSTECT, and UNIST who carried out a heated watersports competition.
DGIST won gold medal in the 2,000m event, the flower of rowing and came in 1st and 3rd places in the 1,000m knuckle-four event for male and female university teams respectively. As a result, DGIST won the game for 3 consecutive years after beating Korea University, Seoul National University, Yonsei University, etc., which have more than 50 years of tradition, becoming the strong university rowing team in South Korea.
Professor Sung Bae Lee, Advisor of DGIST Rowing Club, said “Based on the convergence mindset of DGIST, all team members united in one based and demonstrated more than their individual abilities, which was the driving force of victory this time. I truly appreciate the students who sincerely participated in trainings even during the school break”.
Meanwhile, DGIST is hosting ‘2018 Global Leading University Rowing Festival’ in Dalseong Nakdong Rowing Stadium in front of Bakseokjin Bridge as well as Daelseong-gun and Daegu areas from August 21 to August 25. The festival will be participated by 6 universities from 6 countries including DGIST as well as MIT in the U.S. University of Cambridge in the U.K., Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in China, and the University of Sydney in Australia.
Celebrating its 4th year, the DGIST ‘2018 DGIST World-class University Rowing Festival’ is the world’s high-class university festival for young, smart university students from all over the world share friendship with each other through rowing while cultivating creativity and leadership through academic, cultural, and international exchanges at the same time.
This event, where DGIST students will be competing against talented students from the world’s top, promising schools, is supported and sponsored by Daegu Metropolitan City, Dalseong-gun, Daegu-si Education Office, and Korean Rowing Association.
